We study gap junctions. Gap junctions are interesting and essential connections that directly link nearby cells. The Stout lab focuses on gap junctions found in the brain.
Astrocytes and oligodendrocytes are two glial cell types of the brain. They connect to other glia of the same type and between types with gap junctions. As with most other organs, gap junction are required for the human brain to function normally.
